Are you ready for your once in a lifetime experience in China?!

This summer, Wanderlust Exchange is launching a new type of Au Pair experience for recent graduates who are adventurous and looking for an off the beaten path experience! The “Surprise Host Family Program” will select three audacious Au Pair applicants who would like to spend 2-3 months in China working as an Au Pair in an undisclosed city until just before they depart!

Surprise Host Cities: Shanghai, Beijing, Ningbo, Chongqing, Suzhou, Shenzhen, Guangzhou

Application deadline: April 15, 2020

  • Must be over the age of 18, preferably 21+

  • Recent graduates or students taking a gap year are preferred, but not required

  • Must be available for 2-3 months May 1, 2020 – August 31, 2020

  • Meet the basic expectations for Wanderlust Exchange’s Au Pair Program (see requirements here)

  • Applicants should be open-minded, flexible, responsible, and ready to have fun

Begins the search to find a host family for you, the au pair

Informs you once a surprise offer has been made

Submit the $300 USD down payment to reserve your spot in the program 

(you will be refunded this money upon successful completion of the program!)

WANDERLUST

Helps the au pair with securing a travel visa and books roundtrip airline travel for the au pair

Additional Application Information

In addition to the application process, please review the information below to gain a better understanding of Wanderlust Exchange’s Surprise Host Family Program, deadlines, and benefits!

  • Host Families: Wanderlust Exchange takes the safety and wellbeing of our program participants very seriously. The Wanderlust staff does a detailed background screen of each host family. Additionally, Au Pairs, prior to the program and once in China, have the full and discrete support of the Wanderlust staff in the event the Au Pair faces any challenges

  • Reminder - Application deadline: April 15, 2020, all applications should be submitted by this date

  • Program Arrival Time Period: May 1, 2020 – July 31, 2020, au pairs are requested to arrive in China between these dates, depending on when you arrive and the duration of your stay, you will receive additional program benefits!

  • Program Benefits: Not only will you have the opportunity to have a once in a life time experience in China by participating in the Surprise Host Family Program, but this opportunity comes with monetary perks!

  • Au Pair Introduction Video: If selected for the program, Wanderlust Exchange asks that each Au Pair to film a short video sharing her/his background, experiences, and hopes for the program before coming to China. This video shall be posted on the Wanderlust Exchange YouTube channel and other sites to share your story and experience with the world before you embark on this cultural adventure!

Wanderlust Exchange’s Internship Program brings interested and eager students to Shanghai for a summer of learning and immersion in the Chinese culture. As a Wanderlust Exchange intern, you will have the opportunity to intern in one of the following professional fields for 1-3 months:

 

  • Education

  • Business

  • Marketing

  • Human Resources

  • Law

  • Hospitality

  • Non-Profit Organizations (NPO)

  • Retail

  • Fashion

  • Must be available for 1-3 months for an internship

  • Applicants should be open-minded, flexible, responsible, and ready to put their best foot forward

Program Fee

The following amounts represent the program fee associate with each length of stay.

The following benefits are included by Wanderlust Exchange and are covered by your program fee:

  • Application fee ($400 USD)

  • Placement as an intern within a Shanghai company

  • Visa documents and application support

  • Airport pick-up

  • Orientation & sightseeing tours

  • Regular follow-up from the Wanderlust Exchange Program team

  • Monthly culture activities 

  • Mandarin course 

  • 24/7 support during your stay in China

Accommodations

As an intern you will be responsible for your own accommodations, but the Wanderlust Exchange Program team is happy to provide general guidance to navigate housing in Shanghai.
