The Mo Gao caves are the most well known of the Chinese Buddhist grottoes, and together with Longmen Grottoes and Yungang Grottoes, they are the three most famous ancient Buddhist sculptural sites of China. As a World Heritage site in China, the caves contain some of the finest examples of Buddhist art spanning a period of 1,000 years.
First started in 2018, the Dunhuang Cultural Preservation Program aims at recruiting and organizing volunteers globally to participate in the protection of the Mo Gao Caves in Dunhuang, Gansu Province. The Mo Gao Grottoes are also known as the Thousand Buddha Grottoes or Caves of the Thousand Buddhas.
